Gold Coast United v Newcastle United Jets

Verdict: Gold Coast finished 3rd in the regular season whereas Newcastle Jets did just enough to reach this stage in 6th spot. Interestingly, Newcastle have beaten Gold Coast twice this season, all be it in Newcastle. The only defeat for the Jets came 5 weeks ago in Gold Coast, a 2-0 defeat. On that occasion, the Jets had to recover from a short 3 day turn around from a hard-fought 3-2 win over Melbourne, in stifling hot temperatures.

Both sides have been dissapointing in recent weeks, Gold Coast losing two in a row and Newcastle four defeats on the trot respectively. Jets coach, Branko Culina, has admitted though that this was a bit of an experimental phase for his team and perhaps a period where he could rest some sore bodies. The visitors are boosted by the returning Sean Rooney, Song, Wheelhouse and Topor-Stanley from injury in addition to striker Labinot Haliti from suspension. Gold Coast have not been dominant since the turn of the year with a record of 3-2-2. Newcastle have shown already that they have the keys to unlock the sometimes static Gold Coast defence and perhaps don't deserve such a big under dog tag here.

Pick: Newcastle Jets +1AH @1.97 (pinnacle, 10 units)
Gold Coast United 0 - 0 Newcastle Jets
