Melbourne Victory v Sydney FC
Verdict: Defending champions, Melbourne Victory, will look to win their third title in five seasons against bitter rivals Sydney FC. Sydney FC finished 1pt ahead of Victory during the regular season to claim the 'minor premiership' but lost out to them in two legs (2-3 agg) during the playoffs. As a result, Melbourne are coming off almost a 2 week break (lost to Seongnam 0-2 in the AFC) while Sydney FC defeated Wellington Phoenix 4-2, a week ago.
In the main, there's not much seperating these two sides as they both like to play a short passing game and break hard on the counter-attack when the chance presents. Sydney are missing experienced striker, John Aloisi, but young starlet Chris Payne was impressive in his 2 goal haul against Wellington last week. If the young man can hold his head on this big occassion, then his strength and power could pose a threat for the ageing Muscat and vulnerable Vargas (in Melbourne's back line). Despite losing 1-2 to Melbourne on their last visit to the 'Garden State', Sydney FC controlled the game for long periods and were some what unfortunate to be hit twice against the run of play. I like Sydney's chances here to at least take the game into extra time.
Pick: Sydney FC +0.25 @1.99 (sbobet, 10 units)
Melbourne Victory 1 - 1 Sydney FC
