Major Semi-Final (13/03)

Sydney FC v Wellington Phoenix

Sydney FC v Wellington Phoenix

Verdict: Regular season champions, Sydney FC, will look to continue their winning streak over cross-Tasman rivals Wellington Phoenix today. Sydney FC have beaten Wellington FC on three seperate occasions this season but the visitors are arguably in better form at the moment. Extra time wins over Newcastle Jets and Perth Glory were enough to get Wellington through to their first major semi-final in the club's history, stretching their current unbeaten record to 6 games. In contrast, Sydney FC lost to big city rivals, Melbourne Victory, over two legs with an aggregate score of 3-4.

Sydney FC finished 8pts above Wellington during the regular season and I feel they are superior in many departments, especially on their home pitch. The Sky Blues have lost only 3 times at the Sydney Football Stadium where as Wellington have only managed 3 wins and less than a goal a game on their travels. Wellington have done well to get this far but feel their undefeated streak is a little over rated here. Tight home victories over Perth and Newcastle Jets doesn't inspire me with confidence that they can do the job in Sydney.

Pick: Sydney FC -0.5AH @1.89 (pinnacle, 10 units)
Sydney FC 4 - 2 Wellington Phoenix
