North Queensland v Wellington Phoenix
Verdict: Following their biggest win for the season, a 4-0 triumph over a depleted Newcastle Jets, Wellington will look to push on and cement a spot in the top six. Sitting equal bottom on 18 points with Sydney FC, North Queensland's task of qualifying for a finals berth is almost possible. The 1-0 loss at Central Coast midweek left the Fury 8pts behind sixth placed Melbourne Victory, with just nine games remaining.
Despite their lowly standing, this is arguably the most significant game in North Queensland Fury's short existence. The club's future is in serious jeopardy with poor attendances and lack of funding. As a result, the club has decided to waive the admission fee for this game to attract a large attendance, in an attempt to show Football Federation Australia that football does have a future in this part of the country. Historically, Wellington has been the worst performing away side in the A-League and this season is no different with a single win in ten on their travels. The loss of top striker, Paul Ifill, wil not help matters either in a side that has only scored 5 goals away from home. The Fury are boosted by the return of imposing centre-back, Eric Akoto, but Malik and Cernak remain sidelined. North Queensland will not get a better chance to grab a win and make a big statement to the powers of Australian football that they are here to stay.
Pick: North Queensland 1x2 @2.48 (5dimes, 5 units)
North Queensland 1 - 1 Wellington Phoenix
